What applies in the canton of Basel-Landschaft
Since 2026, normal roof and façade systems only need a notification. A building permit is still required for systems in core zones and protected areas, on protected buildings, free-standing systems, solar fences and solar carports. These are exactly the cases solar installers often leave aside; we take them on.
Permit-free in the canton of Basel-Landschaft: traditional pergolas used as climbing frames, bike shelters up to 6 m² and uncovered parking spaces at single-family and multi-family houses are permit-free (§ 94 RBV). As soon as a pergola provides fixed or movable weather protection, it is considered a covered seating area.
Procedure: free-standing small structures up to 12 m² footprint and 2.5 m height are approved by the municipal council in the simple small-structure procedure (§ 92 RBV). Patio covers and carports need an ordinary building application to the building inspectorate.
Submission: small-structure application to the municipality, ordinary application to the cantonal building inspectorate.
